Oriental Rug Cleaning

Traditionally, plant cleaning of rugs has proven to be the most thorough and complete method.

In plant oriental rug cleaning uses a four step process which begins with the rugs dusted to remove dry soil. Dry soil can make up to 80% of the soil in a carpet by weight. Because the vast majority of the soil can be removed by this process it is critical to have proper dry soil removal.

The second phase is a wet cleaning process such as shampooing or cleaning the rug in an In Plant machine.

The wet cleaning process is then followed by a thorough flushing of the rug with water to remove all detergent residue and soil.
Lastly, the rugs are quickly dried to prevent potential problems.

We recommend that all area rugs be cleaned outside of the customers home, and if not in a traditional plant operation, then at least a thorough surface cleaning. Surface cleaning is the type of cleaning we do here at Coos Carpet Care.

The reasons for not cleaning rugs on location are:
  • lack of control over the drying process which is the most critical in successful rug cleaning
  • no opportunity to correct "surprises" such as browned fringes
  • if the rug dries in a slightly irregular shape that can often be corrected on an in plant tack out floor
  • minor repairs cannot be performed
  • damage can be done to the finishes on hard floors
  • rugs with fugitive dyes that are cleaned on wall to wall carpet can bleed damaging that textile surface

If a place to clean rugs is unavailable to the professional cleaner, we would recommend finding a cleaner that does offsite cleaning and is knowledgeable about Oriental Rugs. The saying “Buyer Be Ware” is very true in this area. Don’t trust your family heirloom to just anybody.
